PRACTITIONER QUALIFICATION – YEAR 2

Designed For

The second year of the, part time (PT), CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (TC-L4) is designed for candidates who have successfully completed Year 1, either having deferred for up to one year after completing Year 1 or are transferring from another provider.

Please note that if you are joining Ocean from another centre for Year 2, you will not be able join the BACP Practitioner Qualification Status Programme unless your previous centre was also part of the same programme.

Assessment

Assessment methods will be both internal and external.

You will be required to produce an audio tape of a personally recorded counselling session which will be externally assessed.  Complete 100 hours of supervised client work as a formally contracted volunteer within an counselling agency.  You will also be required to complete a minimum of 40 hours of personal counselling therapy.

You will be expected to build a portfolio.  The three assessment methods used throughout the training are review of documents, assessed observation, testimony and meeting course criteria.  This ensures that all aspects of the seven processes of practitioner development are evidenced.

Entry Requirement

Minimum age of entry 20 years.

Hold CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills and CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies, or Recognised Prior Learning (RPL), in addition, you will need to have successfully completed Year 1 of your Diploma,

  • You will be asked to attend an interview where your readiness to cope with the course content will be explored.
  • You will need to have secured a counselling placement within an agency setting, working with adults on a one-to-one basis.
  • You will need to submit your Year 1 portfolio.
  • You will need a written reference from your Year 1 Diploma Tutor.

The Training Costs include, tuition fees, course materials, tutorials and Course Leaders visit to placements.  (Excludes textbooks).

Fees can be paid in full prior to the commencement of the course.

A monthly payment plan is available.  A deposit is required.  For details please contact Administration.

Additional Costs

Personal therapy 40 hours (minimum) with a BACP Register Counsellor/Psychotherapist, working from a Humanistic orientation, with a minimum 450 client hours.

Supervision costs if they are not provided by agency placement.

Joining a professional membership organisation, the  British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Professional indemnity insurance.

Accreditation

This is a Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) course, which is accredited by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) into the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).  Qualification number: 500/8088/X

Progression Route

On successful completion of the Level 4 Diploma, you may apply for entry onto our Level Diploma 5 in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, which leads to independent practitioner status.   Details of these opportunities will be discussed during your training programme.
